Why XP Suddenly Reboots for no apparent reason

This is my investigation into this problem on my PC. I used to have a 1.5ghz. P4 with 512 SDram. These are things that I've found and read on the Web and I'll try to dispel those that are'nt fact for mine. Mine only reboots while I'm browsing on the Web. Does'nt happen every day and seems random. I re-format and try different approaches to loading things.

Possible Causes

  • Memory - Read that one person cured his by installing 133mhz. ram instead of 100. I have 133mhz in mine. Memory 2 - Bad Ram, I have 512 mb in 2 256 sticks and have tested them extensively with
Memtest86 2.9 Release (01/Mar/2002) and others. Besides they worked in my previous computer which was a 800mhz P3 with XP for 3-4 months.
  • Settings - This only applies to Boot-up I believe
    Under System Properties
Hold down [Windows] key between Ctrl and Alt and press [Pause]
Now to Advanced Tab and you will see Startup and Recovery, choose [Settings]
Under System Failure uncheck the box that says [_]Automatically restart Overheating - Someone said this may be it. Why does it immediately start back up and work good for days?
  • Programs - I loaded Tiny Firewall and afterwards It did'nt even connect to I-Net when it went to black screen and had something about a sys file in the error. Now I'm not saying Tiny is bad because it could have been a combination of other things caused it.
  • Tweaks - I know you've seen the tweak where you set the MaxConnectionsPer for Http. I used DialupXP© Trialware Ver.1.12 by Cyberwizard Inc® and it sets MaxConnectionsPer to 99. This may be fine for Cable or DSL but I seemed to crash immediately after this. I set mine to recommended of 5.
  • Drivers - I have a GE Force AGP and the drivers where you select which one to install has a list of 7 , and all are approved for XP. I select one and try that for awhile. But i'm zeroing in on this. I seen one forum where 3 other people said they had the GE Force also but theirs were Athalon
  • Update: My problem seem's to be cured since getting rid of the AGP GE Force 16. I installed a AGP Rage 128 Maya AG with 32mb and it no longer reboot's.
